Israeli gunboats fire at Palestinian fishing boats

GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli gunboats on Sunday shelled a number of Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Beit Lahia to the north of the Gaza Strip using heavy machineguns and sonic bombs, locals reported.

They said that the gunboats, which were roaming the sea off the Palestinian beaches, damaged a number of those fishing boats but no casualties were reported.

The Israeli shelling, however, panicked Palestinian citizens who were at the beach at the time, the sources said, adding that the systematic Israeli shelling and firing at Palestinian fishermen had greatly affected their work for years.

They said that fishermen's lives were at constant risk other than their detention and the destruction of their boats.
